INTENTION OF Dirtgear_Patch Dirtgear_Patch introduces several intermediate steps between INT and Pro mode. In gpl there is a rather large difference between the PRO and INT mode. Dirtgear_Patch creates several intermediate levels: Dirtgear GP and PRO mode: Where ShiftR isn't possible. After an accident, if you get the car to the pits it can be repaired (car will NOT be refuelled). Dirtgear PRO mode is more realistic than normal GPL mode. In the Dirtgear_Patch LIGHT version: in PRO mode, drivers with engine failures can bring their cars back to the pits. After suffering an engine failure, slow the car to under 30kmh (18mph) & the engine will work again, but the car gets ShiftR penalties like in INT mode(LIGHT). The gear failure will NOT be repaired in the pits. Dirtgear INT mode: Where ShiftR is possible. You can ShiftR on track, but there are consequences (engine damage, suspension problem and a gear failure). The car can be repaired in the pits, but NOT the gear failure. The car will NOT be refuelled. In Dirtgear_Patch LIGHT version: In INT mode, the gear failure will be repaired at the pit and you loose less engine power. If you bring your damaged car back to the pits without ShiftR you get no gear failure. In all modes, the tyres can be changed. Dirtgear_Patch INT mode is harder than normal GPL INT mode. Also Dirtgear_Patch is made to bring more variations into the races: Tyre wear (caused by wheel spin, sliding, locking brakes), pit stops & dirty tyres if you drive on the dirt. An additional patch gives you the possibility to change the brake balance whilst driving... Also you will find a changed pribluda.dll in the program directory (see 6.) for displaying the actual brake balance and tyre wear. INSTALLATION Put the xml files dirtgear811 and dirtgear811_light from dirtgear811 folder into your GEM+/Options folder. Start GEM+ and check the tick box for dirtgear811 OR dirtgear811_light (not both) & start the patched GPL from GEM+ or run the (eg gplc67) exe directly. GPL.exe can be 36 or 60fps. If it is 36fps the resulting (gplc67) exe will automatically be patched to 60fps. You should not select 60fpsv2/60fpsv2newmod. Unfortunately dirtgearpatch doesn't work with gpl US version and it doesn't work with gpl 1.2.0.2. But in folder NON_US_gpl_v13_exe you find an english NON gpl.exe version 1.3. In case of emergency (the Gem+ patching process doesn't work) you find in folder dirtgear811_exe_if_nothing_works ready dirtgear8 exe files (normal und light version). Dirtgear_Patch works off and online. For online, the server exe must be patched. Joining a normal GPL.exe server isn't possible with a patched exe. Alternative versions: 1. Light version have got limited ShiftR penalties (less loss of engine power - repairing gear failure in case of repairing at the pit). That's the only difference to the normal version. You can't join a normal patched server with a LIGHT version. IN DETAIL dirtgear_patch DOES THE FOLLOWING: 1. Tyre wear The dirtgear tyres are determined by positive or negative wheel spin. The amount of wear is decided by which GPL mode you run: GPL Mode GP: The sensitivity is less; you can run a two hour race without a pit stop. GPL Mode LONG (PRO or INT): the sensitivity of the tyres is 200% of the tyres in mode GP (you can run an one hour race without a pit stop). GPL Mode SHORT (PRO or INT): the sensitivity of the tyres is 200% of the tyres in mode LONG = 400% of mode GP. If you prepare a two hour session in mode SHORT the drivers need to pit stop(s) like in today’s formula one (one or more pit stops). 2. Pit stops At your pit box you can change the tyres and/or repair the car. The waiting time of ONE of these actions is 15s. If you want to repair the car, select reverse gear when you are standing at your pit. If you choose any other gear (neutral too) the tyres will be changed. If you want you can do both, one after another. Therefore it will take 2x15s. The car will not be refuelled. To make a pit stop you must do what you do if GPL gives you a penalty and you have to go to your pit. Drive to your pit. Stop in front of your pit board. The pit board disappears. Don't drive too far. After a few tenths of a second the car will bounce, like when you do ShiftR. This motion of the car is the control for you to know that you are standing at the right place! Without this motion the tyres will not be changed/the car will be not repaired. You now have approx. 10s to select reverse gear if you want to repair the car. Approximately 15 seconds after the first bounce the car will bounce a 2nd time indicating the repair/tyre change is complete. Then you can leave the pits. If you want to also change the tyres you have to wait for the next bounce after another 15s. (If you use the modified pribluda (see 6.), you will see the tyre temperatures change & the tyre wear values reset) If you have been given a penalty by GPL, the pit board stays visible & you read something like, “Wait… Jump Start” or "Cut Track... Wait". The pit stop procedure remains the same i.e. the car will bounce after 0.6s indicating the car is correctly positioned & after the waiting time of 15s for either repairing the car or changing tyres, the car will bounce again. If the GPL penalty is longer than the time to repair the car/change tyres the pit board will remain visible & you must wait for GPL to release you before rejoining the track or you will be disqualified. Please be warned: The car gets a push at the moment when it bounces. It could be that the car begins to roll. In this case please brake! Don't do ShiftR in the pits. That beams you back on track with an engine and suspension problem, a gear failure & with old, dirty tyres! If you have lost a wheel you should not only repair the car. You should change the tyres too! 3. Brake balance patch (BBA) If you use this it is possible to change the brake balance whilst driving. You have to choose BBA.xml in addition to dirtgear_patch. Please use the "Raise Arm" and "View pit board" buttons. You can change these in Options/Controls menu (steering wheel buttons are possible). lift arm button = brake balance to the front pit board button = brake balance to the back If you go to car setup menu or do shiftR the brake balance resets to the settings in the car setup menu. You can change brake balance in left/right direction also. To do so, open xml file in GEM+/Options folder with Notepad or your favourite Text Editor (NOT with Explorer). At the beginning of the file you will find the following: 0x0048575F D8400CD9580CD9C1803D9CD155000 0 7902D9C90404D800E95A010000 Change the single number 0 to 5 Save file. Now the two buttons working in combination with the driven gear (see table). driven gear <=3 >=4 Lift arm button brake balance to left front pit board button brake balance to right back Bear in mind: If you lift your arm the brake balance will be changed! The brake balance patch works with normal GPL too. But if you want to use it you should also use the changed pribluda dll too! You will then be able to see your brake bias in car. 4. Dirty tyres Dirtgear_patch reduces the grip for a few corners if you drive in the dirt, but it works only on the road. If you are in the dirt GPL reduces the grip itself. 5. Penalties if you do ShiftR If you do ShiftR you get an engine problem, a suspension problem at the front and a gear failure. Which gear fails is random. These problems can be repaired in your pit, except the gear failure. However, in longer races, after a longer, random time the gear failure will be repaired as you are driving. The repair of the gear failure in the normal version of Dirtgear_Patch (not Dirtgear_Patch LIGHT version) works such: If you drive in an even gear the odd gears can be repaired and vice versa. If your 4th gear is damaged you should change, if possible, to 5th gear because the possibility of repairing 4th gear is higher. In practice (qualifying) you can repair the gear failure: simply ESC/Enter to leave the track and then go back to the track. The setup is reset (gear failure cleared) the moment you return to the track. If you go to the car setup screen (before returning to the track) the setup will have the gear failure. DO NOT SAVE THIS SETUP! In this case, load another setup (without saving the previous setup) & then reload your preferred setup. It will be your original setup & will not have a gear failure. You can spot a gear failure by checking the gear settings. If there are 2 gears with the same value, this is a gear failure. In practice (qualifying) if you haven’t done a ShiftR, but ESC/Enter (teleport to garage) you will not get a gear failure. After practice (qualifying), the gear failure will be repaired automatically before the start of the race, except if you have saved a wrong setup. BE CAREFUL after SHIFT R! DO NOT SAVE a setup WITH GEAR FAILURE! Think about the consequences of ShiftR before you do it! In most cases it's better to bring the car to the pits without doing ShiftR if at all possible. With Dirtgear_Patch enabled, ShiftR does NOT change the tyres (like in normal GPL), the tyres stay dirty & used. In Dirtgear_Patch LIGHT version: in mode INT, you get less loss of engine power after doing ShiftR and you can repair the gear failure in the pits. In Dirtgear_Patch LIGHT version: in mode PRO, if you manage get back to the pits after an engine failure, you can repair the car. Decrease your speed to under 30km/h (18mph) & the engine will work again - but you get the same ShiftR penalties as in mode INT (Dirtgear_Patch LIGHT). In this case the gear failure will NOT be repaired in the pits. 6. Changed Pribluda In the directory you will find a changed pribluda.ini. If you put this into your GPL folder you will not see contact patch temps, but instead this: red values on the left: Brake balance for every wheel in one tenth of a percent increments Value 550 means 55% brake balance values on the right: Tyre wear, or better said, grip loss 0= no grip loss = normal GPL grip If the wear value increases from 0 to 10, it means the grip of the tyre will be reduce by about 1%. The colour of the wear value draws the dirt effect. green = tyres clean yellow = tyres dirty This feature is based on pribluda version 1.1.2.1 (date 2010/07/03).If you have small drawing problems the solution can be in the changing of PRIBLUDA.ini too. In order for pribluda to work you must use v2 rasterizers. OTHER THINGS With Dirtgear_patch you can't drive faster than in normal GPL. It makes things harder. Under no circumstances will laptimes improve using Dirtgear patch. Think about it: Using brake balance adjustment (BBA.xml) is a chance to balance the car with reduced tyre grip. If you enjoy waving at the crowds and lift your arm sometimes: The brake balance will change to the front or left. Be careful. Because GPL in some cases produces a failure like a hole in the tank - if you have a high speed crash - you can only refill the tank by doing a ShiftR. At the pit stop the cars will not be refuelled. In Single race or World championship mode the patch makes no sense. The dirt and tyre wear effect works only for human drivers. Also AI cars make no pit stops. In Single Player mode (Training mode) tyre wear effect is like in SHORT mode. So you can feel after 30min how your tyres would be after 2 hours in GP mode. Have fun! If you have problems please post it in EOLC or SRMZ forum. THANKS to Brr. He inspired me with the testMOD project. And... without Brr’s work it would be very hard for to me to create an exclusion technology. Naturally I thank all people that give the MOD a chance. DE-ENG translation by roo.
